Curlew have suffered a catastrophic decline in the last 20 years, half of them gone from the UK, 80% from Ireland and Wales. The reasons are drainage of moorland and wet meadows, loss of hay meadows to silage, afforestation of hill land and excessive predation by crows and foxes.
