Spiny Seahorse and Seagrass

Isle of Wight Distillery, Isle of Wight

On the Isle of Wight Distillery, who support the Seagrass Restoration Project.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight (HIWWT) are running the campaign to restore seagrass meadows to the Solent, which has lost 92% of its meadows over the last century. Seagrasses are ecosystem engineers in that they profoundly change their environment to create unique habitats which become biodiversity hotspots. They are the only fully marine flowering plants in the world, growing in shallow coastal waters where sunlight allows them to thrive. The meadows act as nurseries for innumerable species of fish, crustaceans, seahorses, sea squirts and sponges. The Seagrass Restoration Project has already planted 1500 seed pods and they plan a further 2000+. Help this project by sponsoring a seedpod! Details are on the HIWWT website.
