Bittern
Lowestoff
Painted for Suffolk Wildlife Trust to celebrate their beautiful reserve at Carlton Marshes, which has recently been expanded to convert yet more farmland into ideal bittern habitat. Previously-drained farmland has been restored and reflooded, with scrapes, pools and new reedbeds made for bittern and other water-loving birds. Bittern were almost extinct in this country by the turn of the last century, but are now recovering thanks to vitally important work like this.
